68 Plymouth GTX

I will be driving THIS car one day!!!  I’ve always liked the 69 Plymouth Roadrunner, however, at roughly 100 grand, that’s a bit out of my price range.  I fell in love with this Plymouth when I got a chance to see one at Mecum Kissimmee 2012 with my dad.  Fully restored it’ll set ya back about 30 grand, but, HEY…you only live once!!!

Ferrari 250 GTO – REVISITED

Late Sixties ferrari 250 GTO.  I changed my technique here a bit.  This car has so many beautiful curves that I had to switch to my airbrush to blend the colors.  I had a GREAT set of high res photo references for this one so I was able to render reflections on the paint.  Overall, I’m pretty happy with this guy…this car is, in my humble opinion, just absolutely gorgeous…God I wish I was a billionaire…I’d buy this car in a heartbeat!!!!  I think one just sold at auction for 28.5 million…yes folks…that’s the number 28 followed by 6 zero’s.  Ahhh it sucks being poor…lmao.

Again…4 layers max:  Lineart, paint layer, background/atmosphere and grey background layer.

68 Ford Mustang GT390 Fastback – BULLIT

OK..had a friend request this…(he didn’t have to twist my arm too much either…;-D) so without further delay…Here is THE 1968 Ford Mustang GT390 Fastback driven by Steve Mcqueen in the movie “Bullit”.  Now all this needs is some sideview mirrors (the reference pic did not have them – and apparently, the doors must be welded shut on this model…lol…I forgot to draw in the door pull…lmao) and a black dodge charger to chase around.

64-65 AC Shelby Daytona Coupe

Here’s one of my first digital paintings of Shelby’s Daytona Coupe.  This was the famous Cobra designed by Peter Brock for Ford Racing during the 65 12 hours @ Sebring in Florida.  This was, I believe, the pinnacle of the Ford-Ferrari Wars.  This car was driven by Bob Bondurant & Jo Schlesser.  I believe Bob Bondurant drove the #15. One of the cars actually caught on fire in the pits and another was dinged up pretty badly at the very start of the race.  Back in those days you actually ran to your car, started it up and then took off.  Needless to say it got pretty dodgy sometimes at the start.

I was able to view live footage of this race – It’s like a 5 part series on You tube.  There was a HUGE rainstorm and these guys had their ”hands full” most of the day.

At any rate, this car is one of my all time favorite vehicles.  I did this rendering using Painter 11.  I textured the image to simulate pencils on canson.  I used a photo reference that I found on the web.

57 Ford Thunderbird

57 Ford Thunderbird.  Simply a beautiful automobile.  Very satisfying to paint due to the in& out forms and the curves.  The details & the perspective were challenging for me, but, overall, really pleased with the results on this one.  This digital painting is similar in style & color to the Fairlane…I wanted some consistensy between the two.  They are from the same era and company…my plans are to print, mount and frame these side by side.  I’m still not sure what the difference, if any, is between this and the 55 & 56 models – maybe powerplant & options?

Great Website & Facebook Fanpage

Just thought I’d share a GREAT resource for anyone that is interested in drawing cars.  My friend Arvind has a wonderful website called Driven Mavens.  http://www.drivenmavens.com/

http://www.facebook.com/#!/drivenmavens

This is a great place filled with pretty cool people that not only draw cars, but they design them as well.  I’ve been visitng this site for well over a year now and it has helped me immensely.  I can always get a solid critique on the work that I post and there’s ALWAYS something really nice to look at.  Arvind is a pretty accomplished artist and he has some of THE coolest digital automotive art prints that I’ve seen for sale.  He prints them using a metallic printing process that is, for lack of a better word, absolutely STUNNING!!!…I had the pleasure of purchasing 3 and they are “the bees knees”.  Additionally, Arvind has just released a DVD on how to draw cars.  I haven’t received my copy yet, but I’m super excited to get it.  So, if you like cars and drawing is your thing, then stop by there and check some of his stuff out!!!  Until then…Happy sketching!!!!

66 Dodge Charger

66 Dodge Charger Rear 3/4 birds eye perpsective.  This car is really cool.  I can totally see where the following Charger designs took their cues from.  This is a little off on the front fender, but overall I thought it was a pretty good coloring/rendering excercise for me.
